Spring begins to blossom at Rufford Abbey

The first signs of spring have finally started to show at Nottinghamshire County Council’s country parks.

Staff who work at Rufford Abbey, Bestwood Country Park and Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve say that the first blooms of spring have appeared this week.

Linda Hardy, Nottinghamshire County Council’s visitor services manager at Rufford Abbey Country Park, said: “We are very pleased that after what has so far been a mild but extremely wet winter that the signs of spring are here.

“The reaction from people on Facebook to our picture of daffodils this week shows people are keen for spring to arrive

“Elsewhere in the park snowdrops are looking fine and bluebells, while not yet in bloom, are already growing strongly and pigeons are also enjoying this mild spell.

“People will remember that we had snow last year in March, and there could yet be a sting in the tail over the next few weeks, but the early signs are very encouraging that spring is well on its way this year.

“I think that people are especially keen to get out and about and explore the countryside now better weather is with us.”
