Solving the murder at Southwell Workhouse

A murder mystery makes for a spooky experience at The Workhouse, Southwell this spring.

‘Murder at The Workhouse, who killed the clerk?’ will be performed by the Workhouse Storytellers at the National Trust property on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May as part of the Museums at Night initiative.

Researched, written and performed by Workhouse volunteers the event gives visitors the opportunity to follow events surrounding the murder of Mr Henry Quillan, clerk to the Workhouse. Scenarios performed by key characters will be acted out in different settings around the building and visitors will move from scene to scene piecing together clues.

Author Karen Winyard, said: “Although murder was never actually committed in The Workhouse itself, I found enough evidence of dark and dastardly deeds in the surrounding area to inspire my writing.
