Pupils from across Mansfield and Ashfield take part in Young Voices event - the world’s largest children’s choir

Youngsters took to the stage at the Motorpoint Arena as The Young Voices Live Tour arrived in the region.

Schools including Edwinstowe’s King Edwin Primary and St Mary’s, Mansfield’s Abbey Primary and Ethel Wainwright and many others spent months preparing for the music extravaganza.

“All the hard work certainly paid off,” said King Edwin teacher and choir leader, Kate Munnoch. “Young Voices is an incredible event.

“I am so proud of all the children and staff who have shown a high level of commitment in order to learn all the songs and perfect the dance moves in readiness for the live show.

“It was an absolute privilege to lead the group and provide them with this wonderful opportunity.”

The children were joined by a number of musical and dancing stars during their performance including X-factor finalist Lucy Spraggan, Tom Billington and up-and-coming band, Mic Lowry.

Almost 7,000 children each night sang a number of songs together, including Free Nelson Mandela, Happy and When I Grow Up. They also accompanied the famous names in a selection of material in front of a large crowd of friends and family members who were thrilled to see their children on such a big stage.

“It was a wonderful night and a true musical showpiece to remember,” said Ashley Booker, a parent of an Abbey Primary pupil who took part in the spectacle. “I was really proud that my son was able to perform in an arena of such size and was delighted that the school chose to take part.”

The Young Voices 19-date arena tour started at Birmingham Arena on 12th January and will close on 5th March at Manchester Arena.

“Young Voices is designed to unify children from across the region, boost their confidence and provide lifelong memories for them and their families,” said a Young Voices spokesman.

“Teachers and pupils practice the dance routines and learn the songs in their music lessons for many months before they come together for the show at their local arena.”

This national event covers London, Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield, giving the opportunity to over 120,000 children all over the UK to participate and enjoy the experience of singing.
