Play paints a powerful real-life picture

Lee Hall’s acclaimed play The Pitmen Painters is to be presented at Nottingham’s Lace Market Theatre from November 16-21.

Hall, the writer of Elliot has based his play on the true story of a group of Northumberland miners who attended a WEA evening class in art appreciation in 1934.

This sparked them to creative action and they began to produce some iconic artwork.

Funny, emotive and entertaining, the play examines the lives of ordinary men who went on to do extraordinary things.
