New series of Quad screenings

Derby-based arts centre Derby is to host new Dementia Friendly film screenings.

Arts Derbyshire, in partnership with QUAD, Public Health Amber Valley, Made in Derbyshire and the Alzheimer’s Society are introducing Matinée - dementia-friendly cinema screenings at QUAD and other Derbyshire venues. Participants are invited to come and enjoy a familiar musical, make friends over tea and cake, enjoy fun activities and have a chat about the film’s themes.

The next Matinée screening will be On The Town (U) in QUAD, on Tuesday, August 11, from 1pm. Free refreshments will be available from 1pm and the film will start at 1.30pm, there will be an interval with singing and refreshments, the screening will end approximately at 3.45pm.

On The Town, from 1949, with music by Leonard Bernstein and Roger Edens, is an adaptation of the Broadway stage musical of the same name. The film is directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen and stars Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, Betty Garrett, Jules Munshin and Vera Ellen, alongside Gene Kelly. The film won the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture and also won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Written American Musical.

Tickets for the screening are £6.50 or £5 concessions. Patrons with a dementia may bring one carer, family member or friend for free. Places are limited, booking is available through QUAD box office on 01332 290606.
