Neighbours work together

Mansfield Palace Theatre is working in partnership with its neighbour, the Old Library Theatre, to stage some small-scale drama in the latter’s studio theatre.

There are two shows booked for this season, with more to follow next year. In collaboration with County Youth Arts at the Old Library Theatre, The Palace Theatre will present professional touring theatre, from around the country each season.

The theatres are particularly keen to promote this scheme to local senior schools, colleges and also to the general public. They hope the very diverse subject matter of the choice of plays will appeal to a broad cross section of audiences. They are also delighted to introduce some new companies to their stages through this initiative: Two Gents Productions - The Taming Of The Shrew (October 2); James Swanton performs Sikes And Nancy (October 30); Gavin Robertson - BOND (February 5); Rob Johnston - An Extraordinary Light (March 12).

Tickets for the first two plays are on sale now.

Andrew Tucker, cultural services manager at the Palace Theatre, said: “The Palace Theatre prides itself on the range of entertainment we present. We have now joined forces with our neighbours, the County Youth Arts in the Old Library, to make use of their Studio Theatre. This way we can jointly present small-scale drama with one or two actors in a show on a fairly frequent basis.

“We hope that by doing this we will bring a lot of very different work to Mansfield that might otherwise not be seen locally. The subject matter of the pieces selected is also very varied, something that we hope audiences will find very appealing.”
