Musicians band together for Jolly Jock

A group of Derbyshire musicians and artists are gathering together at The Fishpond in Matlock Bath this weekend, to put on a concert to raise money for a fellow Derbyshire musician.

One of those rare, extremely talented and funny performers who creates a memorable impression wherever he plays, using many instruments including trombone, banjo ukulele, kazoo, washboard and guitar, Jolly Jock was recently diagnosed with cancer.

This means that he is unable to carry out all his booked performances, so his friends wanted to do something to help him.

The concert organiser is Loscoe State Opera melodeon player, Andy Martin.

He said: “It’s been no problem getting performers to give their free time.

“It’s going to be a fun night. Jolly Jock is well loved and admired.

“We hope all his fans will come and support what we are doing.”

Sue Devine from Belper group Red Ruff, said: “Knowing what a big part of the local music scene Jolly Jock is, we were honoured to be asked to join in with the fundraising event and are looking forward to being part of the evening.”
