Jake Bugg announces Capital FM Arena date

Jake Bugg has announced a date at Capital FM Arena Nottingham on 20th February 2014 in what will be his first headline arena show in his home city.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming Jake Bugg to the Capital FM Arena Nottingham,” said Anton Lockwood, promotions director for the city-based DHP Family, which has booked the show.

“Following on from the triumphant headline performance at Splendour Festival, it will be fantastic to see Jake headline Nottingham’s biggest venue.”

Last week Bugg announced four UK gigs for 2014, all of which sold out within a matter of hours.

One of Jake’s first gigs was at The Maze in Mansfield Road when he was just 15. Promoter Parisa Eliyon said: “He was just a young lad sat in the corner with his hood up, then he got up on stage, still with his hood up. He was so good I gave him a tenner.”

The 19- year-old music start from Clifton, Nottingham is currently on a major UK tour that includes dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and London.

On Wednesday 30 October 2013 he’ll be at the Roundhouse in London for the Mercury Music Prize 2013 ceremony, where his self-titled debut album is one of 12 nominated for the award. The No. 1 album, which has sold nearly a million copies, is up against David Bowie’s The Next Day, Disclosure’s Settle and Arctic Monkeys’ AM.

Simon Frith, head of the Mercury judging panel, said: “I find this record absolutely fascinating. He is self-contained, young and yet the sound that he draws on, it’s almost like a 1950s record.”

Bugg’s second album Shangri La – named after the Malibu recording studio where it was recorded by producer Rick Rubin – will be released on November 18.

It features the singles What Doesn’t Kill You and Slumville Sunrise, the video for which was filmed in Nottingham by director Shane Meadows.

Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday 1 November 2013 and are priced at £25.20 (price includes administration fee).

Tickets can be booked online via 0843 373 3000 or in person at Ticketing & Customer Services, Bolero Square, The Lace Market, Nottingham, NG1 1LA.
