Group members to play at Guildhall

Kaleidoscope Community Music members are to take the stage at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre this week with Swedish folk singers Kongero.

On Monday, April 13, Kaleidoscope Community Music in association with Derby LIVE presents an evening with Kongero.

Kongero are an all-female, Swedish folk quartet touring thee UK with their album entitled No.3. The night will also include a showcase of song and percussion from Cuba and Brazil.

Kaleidoscope Community Music (KCM) was started in 2002 and became a registered charity in 2012.

Dedicated to enabling more people in Derbyshire to make music, its member groups are open access regardless of ability. In the spirit of participation, Kongero will deliver a choir workshop at The VoiceBox in Derby on Sunday, April 12. Both workshop and concert are open to the public and those with tickets to both workshop and concert will have the chance to perform onstage with Kongero.

KCM members have frequently found themselves performing at high profile events, most recently performing for the opening of Derby Arena.

“Community music isn’t just about music for its own sake.” said KCM chairman Chris White.

“We want to highlight music’s power to bring people together by breaking down barriers in a shared, human experience. Playing in groups can improve confidence and social skills while providing opportunities to learn music leadership, arts administration and management.

“The feedback I receive from members can be moving and very rewarding. The experience is life changing for some people.”
