Gig to launch Notts band’s latest ‘confession’

The alternative-rock four-piece are to showcase the 11-track Embers to Empires, recorded from May onwards and released this week.

Made up of Hucknall duo Richard Beck (lead singer and guitarist) and Matthew Tonge (bass), Mansfield’s Kevin Watts (drummer) and Strelley’s Andrew Jackson (lead guitarist), the band are influenced by Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters.

This release is their second album, following up on 2007’s December Echo, which was well received on the local underground scene.

Paul Joyce, who has worked with Kelly Rowland and X-Factor contestants, has worked as a mix engineer on the new material, while the band have mastered it themselves.

“The album’s name takes its name from the idea that you can start out with absolutely nothing and build up your esteem and standing throughout your life,” explained Beck.

“I would described it as very uplifting and melodic, with orchestral film-style elements. We do take something from our influences, but also have our own distinctive sound too.”

Our Last Confession will be giving £1 from every ticket sold for the weekend’s show to UNICEF’s Syrian Appeal and hope to sell out the 220-capacity venue.

They will be supported by City of Kites and I Am Jupiter, with tickets priced at £4 each and doors opening at 8pm.

Beck added: “We have been going more more than a decade now and we hope this will be our best-received work yet because we’d love to fly the flag for the Nottinghamshire scene.

“After spending most of last year recording the album, we’re looking forward to getting it out there for people to hear and hopefully there will be more gigs to follow.”
