Fun and inclusive girls’ football sessions arrive at Oak Tree Leisure Centre

Oak Tree Leisure Centre is offering new inclusive football sessions for girls aged 10–14, creating a welcoming space for players of all abilities to enjoy the game in a supportive and relaxed environment.
Sessions will take place every Wednesday between 4:30pm and 5:30pm, with the next one due to kick off on January 7th.
This new initiative from the Oak Tree Leisure Centre team has been designed to be fully inclusive, with neurodivergent girls welcome to take part in a pressure-free environment, that focuses on fun, friendship and participation rather than traditional competitive coaching.
Activities will include light skills-based exercises and friendly games, all delivered at a relaxed pace to ensure every participant feels comfortable, confident and included.

Carolyn Hallam, Health and Wellbeing Manager for More Leisure Community Trust (MLCT), which manages Oak Tree Leisure Centre in partnership with Serco Leisure, said:
“We’re really excited to be offering these sessions and giving girls a chance to enjoy football in a fun, relaxed way. There’s no pressure and no expectations – it’s all about having fun, making friends and having a go. Everyone’s welcome, whether you’ve played before or not.
“We are able to offer these new sessions thanks to a generous grant from the Barclays Community Sport Fund, being delivered in partnership with Sported - a charity that delivers expertise, resources and vital support to clubs and groups that use sport and physical activity to make a positive impact on young people – and on our communities – throughout the UK.”
Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, said:
"I'm delighted to see the start of these football training sessions for girls at the Oak Tree Leisure Centre - they should help us to kick-off 2026 as we mean to go on.
"Opportunities to get young people involved in sport and exercise is vitally important in helping them to live happy, healthy lives as they grow.
"The sessions look like a lot of fun and are designed to get everyone involved, regardless of whether they've played before. I'm sure those that come along will get a lot out of it."
