The session will take place on the 28th February between 1-4pm at Kirkby Library.

The idea behind the workshop is to help parents and older residents who are confused by what Facebook is and are wondering why on earth some of their favourite TV shows are asking them to use “hashtags” and tagging and poking are a complete mystery.

Staying safe online is also a major concern for parents and the session has the support of the Cybersmile Foundation, which is a charity committed to tackling all forms of online bullying and hate campaigns. There will be a chance for people who attend the session to make a donation to the charity and to learn some of the basic principles of the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, from setting up an account to interacting with friends, family and favourite TV shows to also how to stay safe online.

LuKas at Work is a family run business and is the brainchild of sisters Katie and Lucy Trinder. Katie is a journalist who has spent may years working in radio, commercial and the BBC.

Katie presented the Mansfield 103.2 breakfast show for five years and has also worked for children’s radio show The Big Toe Radio Show, BFBS at stations in Belize and Gibraltar as well as others.

Katie said: “We are delighted to be running this session in Kirkby, it’s where we grew up and having run a number of these courses last year, we have seen just how much people have taken from them. Whether it’s a Grandma being able to connect with her Grandchildren who are away at university or someone involved in a charity, who just needs to know what a benefit social media can be. Our sessions are informal, fun and you’ll go away with all the tools and information you will need.”
