Ferocious fun at mini festival

The day kicked off with James Gooch, Joe McCorriston, Emily Howard, Maelor Hughes playing sets before the Brad Dear Band, Star Botherers and Colon Zamboni took to the stage.

By now the Black Market was heaving with people that had travelled from as far afield as Germany to attend the celebration of music.

The Barsteward Sons of Val Doonican sparked the place into life with their unique Barnsleyesque cover versions and crowd surfing.

Front man of punk rockers Goldblade threw himself all over the stage in his frantic manner which went down well with the crowd. The Poor Old Dogs and 3 Daft Monkeys kept the vibe going well until the moment the crowd had been waiting for arrived when Ferocious Dog claimed centre stage.

They may be from Warsop but they have a strong following from all over these days, and with a summer of festivals lined up and a new album out, big things are predicted for the folk rock band.

Personal highlights of their set was lead singer Ken Bonsall’s emotion behind The Glass and Criminal Justice.

The mosh pit was no place for the timid on Saturday, although the camaraderie amongst the hellhounds means if you fall, twenty hands will pick you up.

Dreadzone have been a staple part of the indie music scene for two decades and are currently on their 20th year celebration tour. Their infectious combination of dub, dance and rock is irresistible and had the Black Market floor bouncing. For a village the size of Warsop to be hosting such a line-up is a testimony to how well respected Ferocious Dog are among their musical peers and fans.
