Father’s Day knight school

Families can hone their battlefield skills at a special ‘Knights School for Dads’, where they will be greeted by the medieval castle’s knight and hear tales of chivalrous battles and fearsome quests.

There will be the chance to hear about the amazing weaponry and armour of the time before training commences.

In the afternoon children can do battle before a big tournament is held to decide who is the victorious father and chivalrous child.

There will also be breathtaking displays of horseback cavaliers in 17th century costumes, with shows at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

The day runs from 10am until 6pm. Tickets are £9.50 for adults, £5.70 for children or £24.70 for families.

Bolsover Castle is now a complete day out for families as visitors can rediscover what Bolsover meant to William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle - a sophisticated, flamboyant, master horseman and courtier to King Charles I - and his contemporaries through new furnishings and interpretation, and be among the first to experience the restored and repaired walled Fountain Garden.

For the first time in almost 400 years, visitors can stroll along the high-level wall walk giving a new perspective over the garden and surrounding countryside.

There is also a whole new exhibition in the Riding House, and a fantastically fun children’s play area is now open.
