Cinematic fun with Summer Nights 2015

This is the fifth year that Summer Night has been running, with eight fabulous locations and a choice of 11 different films to enjoy.

From feel-good classics, family friendly, contemporary comedy, to sci-fi and musicals, the films are presented on a 12-foot screen by QUAD, Derby’s centre for art and film.

Summer Nights screenings offer the chance to enjoy the great outdoors for a unique cinematic experience. The expanding festival includes three venues in Derbyshire; Kedleston, Calke and Hardwick, plus Wollaton Hall in Nottinghamshire, Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, Belton House in Lincolnshire, with Baddesley Clinton in Warwickshire and Blickling Estate in Norfolk as additional new venues for 2015. The festival runs from Friday, July 24, until Saturday, September 19.

Kedleston Hall kicks off the tour. Drama, music and romance are the order of the day in Dirty Dancing, as Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman spends summer in a holiday camp and falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze).

Interstellar is Christopher Nolan’s first film since The Dark Knight Rises, and is the tale of a crew of space explorers, who use a newly discovered worm hole to surpass the limitation of space travel and embark on an interstellar voyage. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck and Michael Caine.

Dirty Dancing (12A) screens on Friday, July 24, Interstellar (12A)screens on Saturday, July 25. Doors will be open from 7pm.

Calke Abbey hosts two screenings in August. The Blues Brothers, from 1980, stars Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

Jake and Elwood Blues are on a mission from God, to put their band back together, in order to raise money to save the Catholic Orphanage where they were raised. With additional performances from some of the greatest blues legends, this chaotic mix of music and comedy demands to be seen on the big screen.

The Blues Brothers (15) screens at Calke Abbey on Friday, August 7, The Grand Budapest Hotel (15) screens on Saturday, August8. Doors are open from 7pm for both nights.

Wollaton Hall is the setting for three screenings in August.

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa sees Steve Coogan’s comic creation working at North Norfolk Digital radio station when they are taken over by a giant media corporation. One disgruntled employee (Colm Meaney) takes the station hostage and only Alan and his chatting skills can save the day.

The Dark Knight Rises is director Christopher Nolan’s return to Gotham City, shot in the grounds of Wollaton Hall and back for a third year, starring Christian Bale as Batman.

Dirty Dancing (12A) also screens on August 28, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (15) on August 29, and The Dark Knight Rises (12A) screens on August 30. Doors will be open from 7pm for all screenings.
