Christmas Celebration concert is planned for Belper

A Christmas Celebration is the name of a concert taking place at Belper Leisure Centre on Saturday, December 5, from 6pm.

The main sports hall at Belper Leisure Centre will be transformed.

York City Gospel Choir will be attending, singing songs old and new. The choir, as the name suggests, is from the York area and consists of volunteers who love to sing.

One Voice children’s choir, made up from children who attend local primary schools in the Belper area, will also sing a selection of carols and contemporary songs.

The choir is about 90 strong and rehearsals have been busily taking place.

The world premiere of Over The Hill will also take place. It’s a three-part play looking at the shepherd’s journey into Bethlehem to find Jesus. It has a very modern twist with some strange characters met on the way. Belper School pupils will perform the play, written by Andrew Miles especially for the event.

All this, combined with some multi media, will culminate in the evening ending with York City Gospel Choir and One Voice singing together.
