Choral concerts are at the cathedral

On Saturday, November 15, from 7.30pm, Derby Bach Choir presents a Concert for Peace, prompted by the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

The main work on the programme is the cantata Dona Nobis Pacem that Vaughan Williams wrote for the Huddersfield Choral Society in 1936 as a direct response to the worsening political situation.

Derby Bach Choir is joined by soprano Harriet Eyley, baritone Matthew Jordan and Derby Bach Orchestra.

Then, on Saturday November 22, at 7.30pm, Derby Choral Union is joined by Die Marienkantorei, a choir from St Mary’s Church, Osnabrück, for a performance of Brahms’s A German Requiem, heard in the context of shorter choral pieces by earlier composers that Brahms admired and learned from.

Peter Gould and Margaret Williams are the pianists, and the vocal soloists are Cecilia Osmond, soprano, and James Oldfield, bass.
