Big weekend at Clumber Park

Live music lovers can look forward to three days jam-packed with performances to suit a wide range of tastes this weekend at Clumber Park.

The much-loved 3,800-acre nature spot will be host to music ranging from pop and rock to classical during the event’s third year.

The festival kicks off on Friday with Status Quo.

And with total world-wide record sales exceeding 118 million and 64 British hit singles, they do not come much bigger than Quo.

Francis Rossi had this to say about the night when he spoke to Chad in June: “At Download Festival they asked ‘are you going to do anything different or special on the night?’

“The answer is no, we go out every night and do the best we can.”

Their confirmed support acts are Toseland and Strawbs.

Gates open at 5.30pm with Quo taking to the stage from 6.30pm until 10pm.

But for those who are really up for a walk down memory lane Saturday’s Flashback Festival will be just the ticket.

Its line-up includes some of the greatest artists of the 80s and 90s.

Headlining the day is Billy Ocean.

The R&B singer, who is perhaps best remembered now for hit song, When The Going Gets Tough The Tough Get Going, had a string of international pop hits in the 1970s and 1980s.

He was the most popular British R&B singer-songwriter of the early to mid-1980s .

But there are also performances from Kim Wilde, ABC, Jimmy Sommerville, Go West, Midge Ure, Katrina, and Dr & The Medics.

Flashback is a picnic event to which people can bring their own food and drink and either sit back and relax in a memory bliss or dance the night away.

Gates open at 4pm and music begins from 5pm until 11pm.

Sunday will be more sedate but no less rousing with Last Night of the Proms.

Aled Jones will be presenting the show and performing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra with conductor Timothy Redmond and featuring a mystery special guest.

Gates open at 6pm, with music from 7pm until 9pm.

General admission tickets cost £37.95 adults and £22 for children.

While camping tickets cost £49.95 for adults and £34 for children.

Child tickets apply to under-14s, but under-5s can enter free of charge.
