An A.W. Lymn-sponsored brass band has taken part in a historic performance at a former Nottinghamshire pit.

Blidworth Welfare Band - which has been sponsored by the award-winning funeral directors since 2012 - and Nathan Bray put on an emotive concert at Clipstone Headstocks, the site of a former coal mine in Mansfield.

The show marked the first brass band performance since the pit’s closure. The evening brought together music from the pit’s heritage – all set within its industrial surroundings.

The band played a dynamic programme, including well-known titles such as Pines of Rome and A Malvern Suite. Having sponsored the band for more than 10 years, A.W. Lymn now has a long-standing partnership with the group, cementing its commitment to supporting initiatives in the communities it serves.

Colum O’Shea, A.W. Lymn Civil Celebrant and Musical Director at Blidworth Welfare Band, said: “It was a real honour for the band to make history and perform at Clipstone Headstocks this October. It was a truly special evening, and we were delighted to see so many people in the audience. We couldn’t continue what we do without sponsors like A.W. Lymn, and we are incredibly grateful for its support over the last decade.”

A.W. Lymn was established in Nottingham in 1907 and now operates 25 funeral homes across the region. Blidworth Welfare Band is a brass band with a mining heritage. It has established itself as a national brass band, performing across the UK.
