Aus and them takes a new twist

THINK of all the exports from Down Under that have graced our land and they could well slip into insignificance compared with these chaps.

Meet Australia’s notorious Spooky Men’s Chorale, heading to Penistone Paramount on August 18 “for one more tilt at the windmill of impossible masculine musico-foolishness.”

The Spookies formed in Sydney 10 years ago, inspired by the great Georgian choirs.

Much globe-trotting later they sound as sacred as a high church choir one minute and as daft as a raft of drunken Kazakhstani butchers the next.

“The behatted line-up will regale Spooky veterans and virgins alike with rib-tickling and sometimes heart-rending original compositions and eloquent arrangements by an inspired deerstalker-topped Kiwi choral impresario,” says their promoter.

Their angelic tonsils tackle, among other things, The Human League classic Don’t You Want Me and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Boogie Wonderland, matching their vocal prowess with deadpan grandeur amid the mayhem of their humour.

They come with new single BIG and EP/DVD Deep.

Low and behold a tour

ALL Time Low are back to clear up the difference between them and a dodgy pop song by a certain boy band.

First up was their new album Dirty Work. Second is new single Forget About It, outed from the album on August 15 to follow lead track I Feel Like Dancin’. Thirdly the band – Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Zack Merrick and Rian Dawson who formed in 2003 when they were students – make their Sheffield O2 Academy debut on January 23.

All Time Low collected Best Live Act at this year’s Kerrang Awards having teamed up with some of rock’s top producers, including Matt Squire (behind last two albums Nothing Personal and So Wrong It’s Right), Mike Green (Paramore), Butch Walker (Weezer) and John Fields (Switchfoot).
