Alfreton Wesley Church hosts night of festive song and drama

Alfreton drama buffs are turning back the clock for a Christmas celebration.

An evening of festive song and drama will include a laugh-packed version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic thriller “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” – and songs from two world wars.

The event – “A Celebration of Christmas” – is being presented at Alfreton Wesley Church in Ellesmere Avenue on Wednesday and Thursday, December 10 and 11, at 7pm.

Producer David Hopkinson said that a similar event last year attracted a full house.

“Because so many people wanted to come, we have extended this year’s show to two nights,” he said.

A mixed choir will sing a selection of Christmas favourites and war-time songs, with audience participation invited.

A cast of nine from the church’s drama group will present the Victorian comedy, and there will also be community carols, individual items and seasonal refreshments.

“It’s going to be a fun-filled night out for all the family – ideal for getting people into a festive mood,” said David.

Admission is free and there will be a charity collection.
