A champion of the BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee will be winging her way to Mansfield Woodhouse in May to help launch a new haberdashery store.

Heather Jacks, who won the second series of the competition in 2014 will be cutting the ribbon on Saturday May 16 to open the new premises of The Faff Room.

While in town, Heather will also be running two classes, guiding local seamsters in a challenge to produce a dress in a day. The only snag is, they are both fully booked already.

As business owner Amanda Holt explained: “It was crazy! I asked Heather to come for a day, but within minutes of advertising it on Facebook the class was full.

“We had to ask her to stay for another day to meet demand, and I’m sure we’ll have to invite her again.”

Speaking ahead of the visit, Heather said: “I am delighted to be coming, and to officially open the building.

“Sewing as a group can be a real joy so I am looking forward to meeting those who share my interest!”

The thriving business has been based at Burnaby House, Church Street, since March, after moving from the Carr Bank Stables in Mansfield.

Amanda added: “As the business has developed we felt it was the right time to branch out into a slightly larger space.

“We will, of course, continue to house a variety of sewing and craft courses, as well as our normal range of products for sale.”

Amanda says she is thrilled to have bagged a star like Heather to mark the big occasion:

“When thinking of who we would like to open the new building, we couldn’t think of a better person than Heather Jacks,” added Amanda.

“Heather is a true inspiration having gone from strength to strength on her journey through the show.

“I know there is a lot of excitement among our regular sewers about the visit and I personally can’t wait to welcome her here.”

Heather’s first big moment on the day will be the grand opening at 10am.

The Faff Room is also taking the opportunity to open its new café area with tea and cake from local bakers and its new seasonal brochure.
