THERE will be plenty of slapstick comedy, music, dance routines, elaborate sets and festive comedy for youngsters and their families to enjoy at Nottingham Playhouse’s annual pantomime - which this year is Robin Hood and Babes in the Wood.

Directed and written by the acclaimed Kenneth Alan Taylor, who also stars as the dame Nurse Nelly Noggins, the panto will open on 30th November and run until 19th January.

Kenneth said: “I know I said I would hang up the dress after appearing as Widow Twankey in 2008’s Aladdin, but whilst writing this wonderful new version of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, I confess the urge to don some frocks, high heels, make-up and a pair of heart shaped specs came right back to me.

“My youngest grandchildren are also now the perfect age to experience pantomime and I am thrilled to be able to take to the stage again so they can see their Grandad in all his dame glory.”

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood follows the exploits of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (played by the ever-popular John Elkington) who wants to ‘dispose’ of his niece and nephew so that he can inherit their fortune.

But the heroic Robin Hood is ready to topple his plans - as well as woo the delightful Maid Marian along the way.

Although panto fans will have to wait over six months until they get to see the show, there is still plenty going on to get you in the mood.

There will be an opportunity to win a family ticket by finding one of 50 golden arrows hidden around Nottinghamshire, including Sherwood Forest at Edwinstowe.

Twitter users will also be able to decide whether they want to root for the good guy by using the hash tag #teamrobin or the evil sheriff with #teamsheriff.

l Tickets are priced between £19 and £26.50 while a family ticket (four people) is priced at £65, For more details visit www.nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk, call the Box Office on (0115) 941 9419. For updates follow on Twitter @SkyMirror.
