ACTOR, comedian and writer Lenny Henry is bringing his one man show Pop Life! to Mansfield’s Palace Theatre as part of a nationwide tour.

The star, who is also well-known for his work on Comic Relief, will be appearing at the Palace on 9th October - and tickets are on sale now.

The show, which has been announced at the start of the Palace’s autumn and winter season, is set to take theatre-goers on a journey through his life in music.

It includes humorous anecdote such as how a young Lenny thought Elvis was a relative of his because there were so many pictures of him on the walls.

He then moves on to his adolescent years and shares his memories of Northern Soul nights spent at the Queen Mary disco in the Midlands.

Bringing the show up to the present day, Lenny wonders why hip-hop stars are so obsessed with women’s bodies.

Speaking after the announcement Andrew Tucker, who is Cultural Services Manager at the Palace, said the theatre had ‘won a gold medal’ with the show.

He said: “When the agent contacted me I couldn’t believe my luck.

“Then I was incredibly frustrated because our new brochure had just arrived in huge numbers and he could have been the person on the cover.

“But he is such a huge star that I am convinced tickets will fly off the shelf.”

Mr Tucker said that big name stars normally concentrate on huge arenas which makes it all the more special that Lenny chose to bring his show to Mansfield.

“He’s not a one off wonder. “He really is a star,” he said.

“We’ve gone for gold with this and we are so pleased and proud.”

The show takes place on 9th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £24.50 (plus booking fee) and are available from the Box Office on Mansfield 633133 or by visiting www.mansfield.gov.uk/palacetheatre. Get the latest updates from the Palace on Twitter @MansfieldPalace.
