Town’s link with Latvia celebrated

A MUSIC concert celebrating the Latvian community in Mansfield will take place at the town’s St Peter’s Church on 19th May.

The event will introduce Latvian culture and music to local people and gets under way at 6pm.

Latvian chamber choir Novadi will be performing, along with special guests including folk group Austrumkalns and proceeds will be donated to the church.

Mansfield has a long-standing and thriving Latvian community and many events take place at St Peter’s Church.

For the past four years, a Latvian Sunday school has been open for children to learn the Latvian language, culture and traditions, and church services are held once a month in Latvian.

Helmuts Feldmanis, conductor of the Novadi chamber choir, said: “This will also be an excellent opportunity to introduce to local people the wonderful culture, as well as musical performers, of Latvia as many other Latvian musicians will take part in the concert.”

l Tickets are £4 and for more information contact Mansfield 428775.
