See opera on the big screen at cinemas

A live cinema broadcast from the London Coliseum of English National Opera’s La Traviata can be seen at a number of venues in the area on Wednesday, March 11.

The film will be shown at The Ritz Cinema in Belper, QUAD in Derby, Showcase Derby Cinema De Lux, Savoy Nottingham, Showcase Nottingham and Cineworld Chesterfield.

ENO is presenting the first revival of Peter Konwitschny’s celebrated production of one the most popular operas of all time.

La Traviata tells the devastating tale of Violetta, the beautiful Parisian courtesan who shatters convention and sacrifices everything for love.

Verdi’s masterpiece combines compelling characters with hugely moving and instantly recognisable melodies making it one of the most emotionally engaging and popular operas of all time.

The live broadcast from ENO Screen will transmit La Traviata live to over 400 cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

La Traviata is sung in English with subtitles. The running time is 1hour 50mins (no interval).

The 2015 ENO Screen season also includes performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance on Tuesday, May and Bizet’s Carmen on Wednesday, July 1.
