MANSFIELD rockers Dead Harts are in the running for a place on a big festival tour, recording time in state of the art studios and a support slot on a major act’s UK tour.
The post-hardcore band were one of 15 chosen to play a live gig from a member’s bedroom which they hope will receive enough votes when viewed over the next few weeks to propel them, along with seven others acts onto the festival tour, which takes in Slam Dunk, Download, Sonisphere and Hevy.
Dead Harts will need to beat three other finalists from the festival stage to take the ultimate prize of recording time and supporting a major act.
Drummer John Timson (23), of Forest Town, said the performance had gone well. He added: “We are a little bit nervous but if we get through we will play some big festivals so we need our fans to keep voting for us.
“All of us would be over the moon. We just want to play as much music we can and enjoy it while we are doing it.”
John, who went to Garibaldi College, said the band started out at school and developed from there. Its members also include singer Matt Baxendale (21), bass player Matt Sharpe (23), guitarist Matt Pask (25), (23) and guitarist Josh Ward (20).
The band cite The Chariot, Norma Jean and Gwen Stacy as their influences.
Said John: “We are all best mates and we enjoy our own music and getting it across and everything to do with travelling around big cities across the country.”
The band have two three-week tours planned this summer - Europe in May and Russia in September.
Said John: “We are really looking forward to it. We have a few fans in Europe from Facebook and who we have played with while they were touring in England.”
