Exclusive interview with The Three Degrees ahead of concert in Chesterfield

Have your say

Soul legends The Three Degrees are back on tour celebrating more than 50 years in the business with all their golden oldies, glamorous dresses and lots of sparkle.

Signature hit When Will I See You Again, Take Good Care Of Yourself, Woman In Love and My Simple Heart are among the classics which ensured their place in the Guinness World Records as the longest-running female vocal group in history.

There’s been 15 different women in the trio over the years. Valerie Holiday and Helen Scott, who have been around for all the hits, are now joined by ‘new’ girl Freddie Pool - a member since 2011.

Valerie, in an exclusive chat, told us: “Like any job, an employee leaves and you have to find somebody else.

“Freddie has a very strong, powerful voice. She’s a beautiful, friendly young woman. So her personality slotted in perfectly with Helen and I.

“We’ll be performing all our greatest hits. We have quite a show.

“We still get excited wearing those glamorous dresses - we like to sparkle.

“By the time we get to the end everybody is up dancing.”

Prince Charles is their most famous fan.

But Valerie laughed: “Since he got married to Camilla he hasn’t had time to see us. We hope we still hold a special place in his heart.”

You can catch them at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel, on Monday, February 2, at 7.30pm.
