Whether you’re an author interested in writing for young adults, a teacher looking for new ideas to capture student interest, a keen teen reader or a budding young writer, Teenage Kicks will spark your interest and spur your creativity. Derbyshire County Council is organising the young adult fiction day in partnership with Nottingham-based Five Leaves Publications to offer people a great opportunity to meet readers and writers of teen fiction.
The afternoon kicks off with some words from acclaimed young adult fiction author Bali Rai, followed by an opportunity to take part in two break-out sessions, including practical workshops with Derbyshire Poet Laureate Matt Black and a creative writing workshop for 12-14-year-olds.
Other sessions on offer include a chance to meet teenage readers and hear what they think makes a good book, future trends and the use of smart phones and digital media and author talks and readings from Claire Tulloch, Janna Eliot and Paula Rawsthorne.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People Coun Barry Lewis said: “I think this is a brilliant way of generating interest in writing fiction for young people in a style that engages their interest and encourages them to read new books, and even to try writing themselves.”
Teenage Kicks will take place on Friday 16 November between 1 and 5pm at The Hub, Shiners Way, South Normanton, Derbyshire DE55 2AA. Tickets are £10 for adults and free for young people aged 12-17.
