A 20-YEAR-OLD man underwent emergency surgery and is now in a stable condition after being found with serious injuries outside a home in Mansfield.

The road was closed from around 6.45am while forensic experts examined the scene.

Local rumours suggest the incident may be related to an attempted burglary which went wrong.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's very strange. I didn't see him being put into the ambulance, but it sounds like he was in a bad way.

"Someone said he had gone through a window. Another said it was a skylight. No one really knows what is going on at the moment."

Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on Mansfield 420999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

If it was an attempted burglary then what a fitting punishment. Better than a few weeks in prison
