TWO controversial 'garden-grabbing' developments in Forest Town have been delayed so councillors can visit the sites to make a decision on the proposals.
Angry members of Action Forest Town protested outside Mansfield Civic Centre against two plans for houses in gardens behind Clipstone Road West before a planning committee meeting on Tuesday.

Committee members decided to defer any decision on the proposals after an email was read out from fellow district councillor Heather Henshaw, who represents Forest Town East, raising concerns about traffic issues and the damage to wildlife.

It said: "Mature garden habitats will be destroyed. We need to protect the environment for future generations not destroy it."

The plans by J. S. Bloor Ltd for 24 houses on land off Clipstone Road West and Hunt Habitats' proposals for nine homes on land off the same road were both recommended for approval by planners — but councillors will now visit the sites before making a decision.

Residents sent in petitions against the developments and the protest was organised by Isabella Vint, chairman of Mansfield Pensioners Action Association and member of Action Forest Town.
