THE Duke of Gloucester, HRH Prince Richard opened the new Kirkby Community Primary Care Centre at Ashfield Health Village.
He was joined by members of the Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust for a tour of the new unit last Tuesday.
He met patients on the rehabilitation unit, as well as Sam the dog - who is part of the Pets As Therapy programme where dogs are taken to meet sick people.
At the end of the tour, the Duke praised everyone who had been involved in getting the new extension off the ground before unveiling a plaque and declaring the centre officially open.
The new centre now boasts extended opening hours and Saturday morning surgeries as well as a range of primary health services for people with heart disease, weight management and long-term illnesses, while patients can also undergo minor surgery at the facility.
