WITH demolition work finally about to start at the former Mansfield Brewery site, Chad has been given a guided tour inside its crumbling buildings.
We were shown round parts of the six-acre Great Central Road plant yesterday as demolition firm the
Cuddy Group prepares to completely clear the area — which has been a magnet for vandals, firebugs and drug users since the brewery closed in 2001 after 146 years of production.

The latest blaze happened just weeks ago, but
Mansfield District Council has been awarded £500,000 from the
East Midlands Development Agency to demolish the unsafe buildings.
MonthsDemolition work is expected to last a number of months and will see the entire site cleared, including the eight-storey high main building, brick chimney, bottling plants and offices.
And taking part in the tour was a former brewery worker Teresa Morgan, who worked in the distribution centre and is now involved in its demolition as an assistant engineer for the council.
- The council has approved planning guidance to aid potential developers of the site — which sets out a vision for a development with offices, leisure activities and residential use.
