The book is being created by Nottinghamshire County Council as part of the National Year of Reading, and bosses hope to make a record of favourite local words and sayings for future generations to look back on.
Claire Brown, area co-ordinator for Ollerton library, said: "Many of our local words originate from the Saxon and French languages but over the centuries have become uniquely Nottinghamshire – in pronunciation and meaning.
"We are asking local people to share with the rest of the county what they know about their own dialect – we're eager to hear what people say, how they say it and what it means."

A folder of people's contributions will be on display at Ollerton, Southwell, Edwinstowe, Farnsfield and Bilsthorpe libraries until the end of the year and for more information on the National Year of Reading visit
