STAGS legends are heading a line-up of Mansfield Town stars for a major fundraising Sportsman's Dinner later this month — and you could join them.
For tickets are still on sale for the event - organised by Stags Fans United (SFU) as part of its drive to raise upto £250,000 to invest in the Stags.
Guest speaker at the dinner at the John Fretwell sporting complex on 24th September is football star Duncan McKenzie — the former Stags, Nottingham Forest, Leeds Utd and Everton striker.
And he will be joined by many famous faces from the Field Mill past at the event — Richie Barker, Sandy Pate, Jimmy McAffrey, Kevin Bird, Colin Foster, Ian Wood, Paul Matthews, Mick Saxby, Mick Laverick.
Organisers also hope that another legend from the 60s, Dudley Roberts, will be there — while it is hoped current manager and also well known player from the 70s Billy McEwan will also attend.
The Stags legends will be sitting at the tables of guests — and also be available to have their photographs taken with fans.
The evening will also include a three-course dinner, a comedian and an auction of sporting memorabilia, including amongst many others, signed International football shirts, signed Stags' players shirts, a signed Nottinghamshire County Cricket bat, tickets for an England Rugby Union International game at Twickenham and a wide range of stags memorabilia and photos. It is also hoped that signed England World Cup winners memorablia will be in the auction.
Among the signed shirts there may be Bobby Hassell's Millennium Stadium Play-Off Final shirt from the heartbreaking 2004 penalty shoot-out defeat — while there will may be memorabilia from two other stars from that era, Liam Lawrence and Lee Williamson.
And if you will have your copy of Chad's new book End Of An Era: Mansfield Town The Football League Years by then, why not take it along and get it autographed?
Tickets, priced £35, for the event, which starts at 7pm, are still available, contact Richard Sharp on 07814737946 or email

McKenzie (58) played for Stags during two loan periods whilst he was at Nottingham Forest, first in the 1969-70 season and then again in the 1972-73 season, when he bagged seven goals in six games.
The silky skilled striker then established himself as a first-team regular at Forest, before becoming Brian Clough's only signing during his ill-fated 44-day reign at Leeds United. He later went on to star for Everton, Anderlecht, Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers.
Since retiring as a player, McKenzie has hosted 606 on BBC Radio's 5 Live and has gained an excellent reputation on the after-dinner circuit.
THE Stags Supporters' Association (SSA) is taking telephone bookings on behalf of Stags Fans United (SFU) for free transport to the dinner, courtesy of the SSA's usual coach company, McEwen. People wanting places on the coach should ring 07967 689597, stating number of seats needed and where they would like to be picked up."This offer of support by McKewans is fantastic gesture and one that is really appreciated. It has been arranged by the SSA and it is further evidence of all the fans' groups working together for the SFU," said a SFU spokesperson.
At present 49 seats are available but if demand goes beyond that there may be the possibility a 78-seat double decker taking people to and from the dinner.
The coach will be picking up at Sutton Bus Station at approx 6.30pm and making another collection at Mansfield Bus Station at 6.40pm. It will make a return journey at the end of the evening.
SUPPORTERS wanting to join the recently formed Stags Fans United (SFU) group - which aims to raise upto £250,000 to invest in Mansfield Town FC in return for a seat on the board and the chance to buy more shares - can now pay by direct debit if they wish to become a member.Any fans wishing to take advantage of this, £10 a month for 10 months, should contact Keith Underhill, TM treasurer, on 01664 850988 for a DD form.
