A GROUP of American businessmen are lining up a bid for Mansfield Town - but the club could be sold before they formally enter the race, Chad can reveal.
It is the latest twist in the takeover saga that has surrounded the football club for the past 18 months.

Stags owner Keith Haslam is already negotiating on two firm offers for the club, through his chief executive Stephen Booth.

And yesterday Mr Booth told Chad: "As I said last week I am cautiously optimistic and things are moving on. I am hopeful we may get a resolution in the next couple of weeks.

Heritage

"Different potential bids are at different stages, one is more advanced than the others.

"I can confirm that I have had no direct contact with anyone from America. And I stress that we are not necessarily looking for the highest bidder, but rather we want to make sure that the heritage of Mansfield Town FC is safeguarded as far as possible — ensuring in part some long-term continuity."

The American businessmen — who have yet to formally make contact with the football club — are based in the Midwest in the States and have asked to remain anonymous at this time.

Their spokesman told Chad that the plans are still at a preliminary stage, but they were considering a proposal for both the club and also Field Mill.

Some of the investors have a 'big experience' in football, according to the spokesman with whom Chad has been in contact over recent weeks.

The businessman has been watching the fortunes of the Stags for several years and has visited the town in the past — where his sister-in-law used to live.

Tradition

He told Chad: "I have been following the Stags for years and when I saw that they just keep on struggling, year after year, I started looking into the team. I love the history and tradition of Mansfield Town FC.

"At that point I felt I wanted to help and do something for Mansfield. That is when I decided to look into buying the club."

If successful, the spokesman said he intended to relocate to Mansfield to run the Stags.

He admitted: "It will take time and money to turn this club around. We would put in the initial infusion of money and try to stabilise it.

"My first priority is to get the support of the fans and build a strong relationship with them. I want to be involved in the community in any way possible. The fans are very important to this club and we need them.

"We also need support from the sponsors. It is so important to have corporate sponsorship. I want to develop relationships with local businesses and further afield."

The group's plans include a possible redevelopment at Field Mill - with the aim of securing promotion to League One in the short-term.

Well our club is more like a soap opera than a Disney cartoon, whatever next? Bottom line is, does Keith want to sell? Answer - he probably doesn't even know himself! One for the Stags Talk panel to chew over no doubt.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, only a few people in the town genuinely care. Just look at the business people in Mansfield & Ashfield falling over themselves to buy the club - NOT. The ones that do profess to have an interest are all too happy to slag haslam off - and rightly so - but they're hardly putting their money where their mouths are. You know who you are - if you care like you say you care you'd be doing something about it.

If so many people are interested in buying the club why hasent it sold by now. Im guessing mr h hasent had his target of 5million offered yet because thats what he wants no doubt for the club and stadium. You cant buy a club with no stadium its pointless without the land mtfc is worthless.
Just hurry up and get your offer in not keep saying your going to then never actually come to mansfield.

Booth should take any interest very seriously in offers or bids that concern the purchase of club AND ground before rushing through any offer that will yield Haslam a guaranteed yearly rental income, which is what I presume he means when he talks about "long term continuity".Make no mistake the vast majority of "Stags" followers want rid of Haslam for good,so I would say this to all you bidders,ALL OR NOTHING please!

I would echo the sentiments of the other Stags' fans who have commented on this latest 'development'. I doubt any rumours about bids will result in a deal for the club being sorted in the near future. The powers that be at MTFC don't have any interest in the supporters and regularly mislead them. Taking a few recent examples at random : (i.) Haslam wouldn't provide a very insubstantial bit of cash to help with a temporary stand so more supporters could go to Harrogate railway (ii.) Haslam says he wont be attending at Field Mill and then turns up when he wants. (iii.) Haslam says he is going to apologise for his bad behaviour when caught smoking a big fat cigar. When will that happen? Anyone who feels they can believe, negotiate with, or work on behalf of MTFC's owner is either very naive or in Haslam's pocket. Believe it when it happens is my recommendation to any supporter tempted to think that Haslam is about to sell.

I have heard that a group of Martians are interested in buying the club. Haslam will feel right at home as he is living on another planet. I live in hope Haslam will be transported there but even aliens have some taste and would not trust him !!
