STRIKER Simon Brown wrote himself into the Stags history books with a record-breaking hat-trick - the first of his career - in the 5-0 demolition of Macclesfield.
The treble - completed by the 21st minute - was the earliest in a match ever by a Stags player - but only the fourth fastest.

Brown's strikes eclipsed the efforts of Dudley Roberts - however, in terms of the quickest treble his remarkable effort still put him behind Iysden Christie, Iffy Onoura and Lee Peacock.

It was the perfect hat-trick - the first with his head after seven minutes, the second with his left foot in the 18th minute and the third with his right just three minutes later.

Afterwards he said: "I didn't play my best, but it was one of those days where everything I hit went in.

"I just took my chances, I don't think I had another shot on goal. The defence were also magnificent, in some ways they won us the game today. Another clean sheet helps us because we know we will score goals.

"We have turned it around now, the MK Dons game gave us confidence and then 'Muggs' nade that penalty save at Barnet."

Manager Bill Dearden was full of praise for the hat-trick hero and his strike partner Michael Boulding, the leading scorer in Division II with nine goals.

"They are on fire right now. Browny has done really well up front, he likes it there.

"Teams at this level can not cope with their pace. They will always get chances, I have always said that."
