Stags had their first three league games postponed but McEwan is seeing who he line up for tomorrow and hopes to include a goalkeeper and defender/defenders.

Stags currently have three players on the treatment table with skipper Adie Moses the worst-affected with a calf strain along with Nathan Arnold (thigh) and Aaron O'Connor (calf).

McEwan is keen to bolster his squad but again warned: "I can bring in players today. But until the right ones come on the radar there will be nothing done.

"I have spoken to one or two people and I am waiting on phone calls.

"I did have a forward lined up and the manager on the phone today ready to do the deal. But priorities change and it is a fine balancing act at this level while I have also got to be fair to the players already here.

"I had a defender in here last week but all of a sudden he has a groin injury and is out for two weeks.

"I have a left sided player lined up too. But my priority is a centre back which was the case even before Adie was injured. But you must also remember that Gavin Hurren did very well in that position in the second half on Saturday.

"Adie has a slight calf strain and we brought him off as more of a precaution at Salisbury on Saturday. He could have played on, to be fair, but we didn't want to take the risk of losing him for four or five weeks rather than a couple of weeks.

"Bear in mind we took it easy with Aaron's calf strain and he was still out for three weeks. But it could have ended up being a couple of months.

"I know what it's like as when I was player I was out for six weeks with a calf strain.

"I had hoped to have a midfielder in tomorrow but his club have an FA Cup replay so he can't play for us.

"We also need to look at the goalkeeper situation as young James Herriott was only ever a short-term stand-in. We need a bit more experience there. I am looking at the situation all the time."

He added: "It will be good for the rest of the squad to finally get a competitive game tomorrow night as you can't train all week and have nothing at the end of it. You need games."
