And he admitted the continuing on-off saga of the club's sale was not helping matters.
After this afternoon's 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Grimsby Town he said: "What better place to get your first away win than at Chesterfield?
"We have some good games to look forward to over Christmas and if we play as well as we can I know we can get a result at Chesterfield.
"It is disappointing to be four points adrift again but we have pulled it back already this season and we can do it again.
"The Wrexham game we had postponed was very important as we had just got back with the pack and thought we could kick on. We have games in hand and just have to make sure we win them.
"I was disappointed with Grimsby's goal and our performance at times. John Mullins had to come off with an ankle injury and within two or three minutes they scored from the side he was defending. We had half chances but we didn't do enough.
"Grimsby had a lot of possession in the second half but apart from the goal they didn't cause us any real problems and I don't remember either keeper pulling off a great save.
"We went 4-5-1 10 minutes into the second half as we were being overrun in midfield and maybe we will have to play with a different formation away from home in future."
He added: "The political stuff off the field is not helping. It's been going on for so long now and has got to be sorted as soon as possible.
"We are doing the best we can with what we've got on the football pitch. You try to put it to the back of your mind but it's impossible at times.
"We are doing the best we can in very, very difficult circumstances."
