MANSFIELD Town's two new England internationals were caught up in a plane drama this week as they tasted a 6-2 defeat on debut for their country.
Jon D'Laryea and Nathan Arnold were part of the England C side heavily beaten by Bosnia and Herzegovina's A2 squad at a rain soaked Sarajevo on Tuesday evening.
Both Stags players started the match, though D/Laryea was replaced after an hour.
The home team was effectively a second string, a bridge between the Bosnian's U21 side and the senior team - whereas the England side was an Under 23 line-up.
And that extra experience told as Bosnia raced into a four goal lead after just 33 minutes. Ebbsfleet's Luke Moore and Pxford's Matt Day scored for England in the second half, before the hosts struck two more late goals.
Earlier the players had arrived in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo 24 hours late for the international friendly.
The Mansfield duo, who linked up with the England set-up on Saturday evening after the Stags' 2-1 defeat at Crawley, first had problems on Sunday night when they arrived in Vienna to find that their connecting flight to Sarajevo had been cancelled due to bad weather.
After a night in an airport hotel and a 5am wake-up call, the group took to the air again - but after two aborted landings they found themselves back in Vienna.
With Sarajevo closed, England C eventually found seats on a flight to Split in Croatia, before a six- hour coach trip to Sarajevo.
The group finally arrived at their hotel base at 9.15pm on Monday - not the best preparation for Tuesday's match snd perhaps reflected in the result.
The game was seen as vital preparation for England's International Challenge Trophy Group A decider in Italy on 12th November.
