STAGS midfielder Jon D'Laryea was part of the England C squad in Italy on Wednesday afternoon which secured a 2-2 International Challenge Trophy Group A draw.
That meant England qualified for the final, against Belgium in February of next year.

However, the national side had a scare deep into injury time when Italy had a 'goal' ruled out.

D'Laryea was given a late call due to injuries - as reported at chad.co.uk on Sunday - and McEwan said today: "It doesn't help us prepare but his country calls so he has to go.

"But it is good for the boy and for Mansfield Town that we have an international youngster here."

And he had words of encouragement for Nathan Arnold, who played with D'Laryea in the last England C squad but has been left out altogether this time, despite the fact he is playing better than he was at the time he was selected.

"If Nathan keeps playing like he did on Saturday then it won't be long before they come back for him," said McEwan.

"One swallow doesn't make a summer and he has to keep playing well. He has the potential but you must fulfil that potential.

"There are lads with lots of potential now out of the game, playing on parks as they failed to fulfil it. It's all about hard work and endeavour. The bottom line is - what is your end product?"
