MANSFIELD Town will not be extending keeper Paddy Gamble's loan spell from Nottingham Forest, Chad understands.
The 20-year-old keeper joined the Stags in the summer on a half-season loan, but has been dogged by inconsistency.

  • Stags take a Gamble on keeper!

He made 28 first team appearances for Mansfield, but it is being reported that he was told by new manager David Holdsworth on Friday the Stags would not be seeking to extend his loan from the City Ground.

It is thought that Gamble had wanted to stay at the Mill - but Forest may have blocked extending his loan with the Stags anyway.

The Stags' other keeper, Jason White, has just returned from injury into training, but is not yet near first-team fitness - suggesting that Holdsworth will be bringing a new stopper into Field Mill this week.

One name mentioned has been Holdsworth's keeper at his former club Ilkeston, Chris Adamson (30), who started his career at WBA and once played two matches on loan at the tags in 1999.

In other transfer speculation, Chad understands that midfielder Curtis Woodhouse will be signing for Mansfield - despite manager Holdsworth playing down rumours on Friday.

The new boss is also looking to bring a defender as he attempts to plug the leaky Stags defence.

  • Stags boss Holdsworth to unveil new signings this week?

Three Ilkeston players, Irish U21 defender Kieran Murphy and ex-Port Vale striker Louis Briscoe - together with Rotherham forward Tom Cahill currently on loan at Ilkeston - have been mentioned in speculation, as well as Rushden's much-travelled striker Daryl Clare.

Not suprising news good luck to paddy he has the potential to be a great keeper and probably will one day.
However its quite clear his confidence has been shot and not training every day of the week with the defence just wasent working.

We need to bring in a good expierienced keeper who can settle in fast and work with his defence to keep those clean sheets and i would hope david has somebody in mind.

I can see why forest may have blocked the deal with them losing lee camp back to qpr and having to use paul smith again that puts gamble third choice and the new manager will probably want to take a look at him.

Bring back "Rodney, Rodney Arnold". We want a good stopper in his mode.

This confirms what I said the other day.2 Ilkeston players trained with the Stags.
Sorry Dot,I cant see Pilko coming.Hoult`s out injured at the moment.
Stag1960,I`d love to see another Kevin Hitchcock or a Dave Hollins at the Mill.Although I thought Big Dave & Rod were great,i`ve always considered Hitchy to be our BEST ever No.1.God,was he good!!!!!?...Brilliant penalty saver!!!(& like Paddy, he started on loan from florist).
I think Adam might be right,Paddy will probably be a very decent Keeper, but not just yet.

Hitchy and his boots - what a combo in the penalty shoot-out at Wembley!!!!!

Hows this for a few positives;
Crawley to lose PLENTY of points(Though I suspect THEY`LL get let off, because they`re not Mansfield Town).
Torquay & Kettering are concentrating on the FA Cup.
(So that`s 3 teams above us who could slip up).
Our next 6 games ought to bag us at LEAST 12 points, maybe 15 & if so, things could be extremely rosey!
Wouldnt it be fitting if we COULD make Wembley again, for Ian Greaves!!!??????

Paddy Gamble will never be a top keeper. I think Forest will let him go and he will be a league two keeper at the most. Very little potential for any better, thanks anyway for your efforts Paddy.

how about muggleton returning between the sticks, i would love to see him back as he never made any real mistakes and was very consistent, hopefully he would rather be playing than coaching pilko.

not 4 me he let a few in last season that i blame him for. good goalkeepers are hard to find especially for free.looks though rushton got the better deal on goalkeepers from forest they have just taken one full time.alan marriott at rushton is ok.
