EXPERIENCED defender Paul Heckingbottom today signed a one-year deal for Mansfield Town.
The 31-year-old was with Bradford City last season, but was out for most of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

The left-back started his career at Manchester United as a youth and went on to play for Darlington, where he made over 120 appearances before moving to Norwich City, Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, and returned to Bradford last season.

Heckingbottom has amassed over 350 career appearances.

Shortly after penning the deal he told mansfieldtown.net: "It was an easy decision to make. I spoke to the manager last week and he impressed me with everything he said.

"When I drove home I thought that I would enjoy myself playing for Mansfield. It was the manager who convinced me that it was a good move to come here."

Said manager David Holdsworth: "He is a class act and an accomplished player. The left back position is one which I have been trying to fill for the past few weeks.

"I had three candidates in mind but Paul is a League player and will slot straight into the left back position. I am delighted to have him on board."

SUMMER INS: Paul Heckingbottom, Gary Mills, Tim Sandercombe, Daryl Clare, Luke Graham, Luke Jones, Jake Speight.

SUMMER OUTS: Nathan Arnold, Anthony Howell, Neil MacKenzie, Paul Mayo, Michael Blackwood, Gianluca Havern, Chris Wood, Jamie McGhee, Ryan Goward, Lewis Trimmer, Warren Burrell, Adie Moses, Jason White, Mark Stallard, Aaron O'Connor, Alan O'Hare, Alex Jeannin.

TO BE DECIDED: Curtis Woodhouse.

On the face of it, an impressive signing. Someone on here asked what had happened to Paul Mayo - I wonder if the CHAD could tell us who is currently on the books and who has left because I have definately lost track!!

good signing in my book, we need some experienced league players to mix with the amount of none league players, DH DOES IT AGAIN

Is it me,or do we seem to have a VERY SMALL squad?
17 players out & 7 players in!(& 1 of those is Daryl,so in theory,6 NEW faces)
I know DH has said that he wants another 3 to come in,but it still looks very small to me.
What happens if we get a few injuries?
Will we be relying on Loanees?
I know we wont be having a reserve side but i`m just a little concerned!!

I hadn't realised O'Connor had left. He was one that I thought would be worth a 1 year contract. Looking at the other 'outs' there's probably only Moses, O'Connor, Arnold and Stallard who could be called regulars and even some of them spent a lot of time on the bench. If DH is looking at bringing in 3 more players then we should have a decent sized squad and hopefully a more potent one at that.

Mis-calculation!.....Sorry!
I missed Gardner & Duffy off my list.
Seems i should be taken outside at dawn & shot for the mere thought of questioning whats being done at the Mill!
How awfully negative of me!
What a plonker i am!
I suppose i`d better not say where i think we`ll finish the season or i`ll probably get flogged with a wet tea-towel.......
How damned negative of me, to even consider having an opinion of my own.Shameful!

I also thought O'Connor would get a year's contract. He showed some promise at times. I suppose with Clare and Duffy (and hopefully, another proven goalscorer on the way), we'll be OK up front, though.

Tim/TomattheChad - do you also work in Classifieds? They're always hitting the wrong keys, too!
