IT is being reported that experienced midfielder Peter Gain is in talks over a possible move to Mansfield Town.
Peterborough United has stated on its official website that Gain has cancelled his contract at London Road by mutual consent - 'and is expected to sign for a League Two club before the weekend'.

The former Lincoln City player has held talks with bith the Stags and relegation rivals Dagenham and Redbridge this week and the Posh say he is expected to make a decision on his future shortly.

On Thursday morning it was suggested that Gain is expected to join Dagenham for family reasons.

But Stags boss Billy Dearden did admit to hoping to sign the player. He said: "I feel he could give us more balance down the left . . . but he is probably going to sign for Dagenham."

Gain (31) played more than 200 matches in six years at Sincil Bank, scoring 22 goals.

He signed for the Posh in June 2005 and has scored eight goals in 69 matches.
