TONIGHT's eagerly-awaited promotion clash between Stags and Luton Town has been called off this morning because of a waterlogged pitch.
Local Football League referee Russell Booth deemed the Field Mill surface to be unplayable after inspecting the pitch.

He told the club's official website, www.mansfieldtown.net: "The standing water comes above your boots when you enter the pitch.

"Rain is forecast all day and the pitch will not improve in time for tonight's match.

"It is only fair on Luton Town that the decision has been made this early as they were due to depart at 9.30am."

A disappointed Stags boss David Holdsworth said: "We are obviously disappointed that the match has been called off as it was eagerly anticipated.

"However, the pitch has been deemed dangerous to play on so we will have to wait another day to play Luton Town."

Mansfield had been looking to return back to winning ways after failing to win their last two home games against Forest Green and Eastbourne Borough.

A new date for the fixture will be confirmed at a later date.

What a joke! And since when would Luton NEED to leave at 9.30am to get here? Have Luton relocated to France and need to catch a ferry or something?
I know they want to prepare for a match properly, but thats ridiculous!

Local ref Mr Booth, who was done a favour by MTFC by letting him train during the summer with our 1st team squad, returns favour!!

ooohh controversial!

All the best to jon d who has now gone to Northwich fulltime.

A loyal man who stood by the Stags after the relegation season. A good player and I wish him all the best in his future career with Northwich and beyond.

Hopefully he will help them to a good cup run.
