MANSFIELD Town manager Billy McEwan - underfire from some fans after a run of one win in seven BSP matches - has been publically backed by chairman Andy Perry.
McEwan was given a three-year contract by the club's new owners in the summer and has called for supporters to show patience and stick with him through the recent slide down the BSP table.

  • Stags transfer target changes mind

Now the club's chairman has joined the debate over the manager in an audio interview with the club's official website mansfieldtown.net

Perry said: "Not only does he have my backing, he has the backing of the board and has the backing of a lot of fans as well. There is always a minority, and I don't want to talk about the minority of people out there that just want to jump on the bandwagon . . . that seem to do harm to the football club with the bad publicity they get out there.

  • Stags should not lose points over O'Connor row - chairman Perry

"I want to concentrate on trying to help Billy build a stronger team and move forward. We have the January transfer window coming up, we know Billy is looking at certain players.

"It is difficult when you are a Conference team, though we still feel ourselves as a Football League team, the way we train, the way we do things at the football club.

"We are mindful we aren't getting the results; it is a results based business. There is nobody more than me wants us to win . . . but some of us have to keep a cool head, there is still a good half of the season to go. We have got to dig deep, show a lot of character to produce these results.

"Also we are mindful that we do want to strengthen (the squad) and Billy has our full support to strengthen. He is talking to the board all the time about players . . . they may have to drop down to the Conference level and it is trying to sell them the bigger picture to do that . . . I am pretty convinced we will be bringing somebody in, in January."

They may train like a Football Legaue club but they do not do things like a footballmleague club.
How many more points will we have deducted for the O'Connor farce? and when will Keith Haslam be the former owner?

I`m STAGgered that Mr Perry describes the unhappy fans as a MINORITY!!!!!
At the game when the booing occured it was CERTAINLY NOT a minority & from reading posts on this site it`s not!!!!!
Maybe we should all just shut up & just watch the club slide into oblivion, without showing we care.
Maybe if Mr Perry doesnt like the critical fans, he`d be willing to buy back my Season ticket & I`ll find something much better to do with my money & time

None of them are going to say it was a bad idea anyway because that means admitting that them giving him a 3 year deal was a bad idea. and yes your right delboy its certainly not a small minority.

Is it me, or does this statement sound very similar to the ones that a certain K.Haslam used to push out.
He always described any fans not agreeing with him as a MINORITY!

Yes Andy seems you have spent to long in the cretin from Calvers company. He too said it was just a minority that wanted him out but it hit home big time what the strength of feeling was against him when someone smacked him on the nose. Can you not see we are sick and tired of having our noses rubbed in the dirt my friend. Sick and tired of going to work and your mates taking the you know what every Monday. Sick and tired of feeling cheated out of 50 quid nearly every time we go away. Sick and tired of fighting against relegation. Sick and tired of coming home on a Saturday with another weekend of despair in front of us. And it seems to get worse and worse every week.

On the up side the dreaded vote of confidence usually says the manager will be sacked next week sometime....
