THE newly-formed Stags Fans United (SFU) has reached £28,000 in its appeal to raise £250,000 to buy a future share in running Mansfield Town Football Club.
The supporters group hit the mark after just 10 days of fundraising. amid uncertainty about the club's future.

Now it is urging fans to continue to donate money and also back other fundraising events.

This includes three fans taking part in the Mansfield Half Marathon in July, while a sportsmans dinner is planned for 24th September at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex.

  • Fans run Half Marathon

Further details of fundraising events - and how fans can get involved - will be released later this month, a spokesman told Chad.

SFU is a merger of the club's four major fans groups - the Stags Supporters Association (SSA), Stags Fans For Change (SFFC), TEAM Mansfield (TM) and Ollerton Stags Supporters Club (OSSC).

At a major public meeting earlier this month it launched its appeal, hoping to use money donated to buy a 'significant shareholding' in the Stags under any suitable new owners.

Since then money has been handed over by generous fans, who are being asked to donate a minimum of £100 to join the TEAM Mansfield Trust (soon to be renamed the Stags Fans United Supporters Trust).

Some have been sending in £100, but others have been donating even more - one fan as much as £1,000 - to the cause.

Fans will receive one voting share in the Trust, regardless of how much they donate.

And supporters can raise the £100 between them in return for their one share in the Trust.

Now the Trust, which has already been in contact with some of the parties in negotiations with Stags owner Keith Haslam, is appealing for more fans to back their campaign - using the slogan 'If you care buy a share'.

Probably the darkest hour for the club and it is still in decline, one day these people who have run it all down will be gone and MTFC will rise again, it will happen!
Probably too late now this season to start a new club at the bottom of the pyramid. I feel sorry for Paul Holland, what is he expected to do, how can he attract or keep players here.
What is the chances of the team not being able to complete its fixtures in BSP, or like Lancaster City in the BS North recently when they could not afford to pay their first team players and they all left, so they played they Youth Team, and lost every game.

I agree with u merrillx, feel sorry 4 dutch,he can't do anything about this mess were in.But shows great loyalty 2 stags,he might not even be manager 4 next season[if there is one 4 us]can't beleive that 1 person can do so much damage 2 a club that we all love.keep looking on net n teletext hoping it says m.t.f.c. sold, then we can all move on,get better gates buy more shirts etc put cash into the club, just feel better when ur sat in ur seat watching stags. But while haslam's here none of this will happen, just feel were doomed, its like he's trying 2 hurt the people of mansfield not just stags fans.Fully support SFU,but everybody's hands are tied end of the day its up 2 haslam were the club goes,my thoghts.
