FORMER Stags striker Adam Birchall's equaliser saw Mansfield drop two precious points in Saturday afternoon's 2-2 draw at Field Mill.
But Birchall is still tipping his old team mates to avoid the drop.
He said: "I was raring to go today and, with the history of me and my old club, I was delighted to score here again but a little bit sad with the circumstances.
"I still think Mansfield will get out of trouble and hope they do.
"I had to take it on the chin to be on the bench today when we had injuries and the manager went for five in midfield. I had to be very professional and I did everything I didn't do when I was here which was to be mature about it!
"I have said all season that Mansfield are one of the best sides we have played against and almost all the lads in our dressing room agree me.
"Some of Mansfield's football in the first half was breathtaking at times and, if they keep doing what they are doing, they can still stay up, though I do think it will go down to the wire.
"I still think that last game at Dagenham will be massive."
Afterwards new Stags boss Paul Holland said Birchall was one player who should never have been allowed to leave the club 'on the cheap'.
He said: "It had to be Adam Birchall who scored their equaliser didn't it? He is one of several players who should not have been allowed to leave this football club on the cheap in my opinion, but that was before me."
