MANSFIELD Town chief executive Stephen Booth says that it is too early to make firm decisions ahead of the Stags' first season in non league football.
But Booth, still insisting that he is trying to broker a sale for owner Keith Haslam, added that now is the time for any would-be buyers to come forward.

  • Mansfield Town relegated

On Tuesday night the Stags were relegated to non league football after 77 years in the Football League - a decision which Booth said a few weeks ago would then signal the resumption of takeover talks with any interested parties.

He told Chad: "It is very clear to any bidders now where the club is. It is time for them to put their thinking caps

"Everything is final now and I am working on a revised business plan for Conference football.

"Obviously I am devastated . . . but we have now got to plan for life in the Conference. There are many things to think about, such as ticket pricing and so forth.

"But any major decisions, on players etc, are best left until things settle down and we can look at them in the cold light of day.

"Obviously we have got to prepare for life in the Conference and hopefully any takeover talks can run parallel to that.

"We have got to have plans in place come what may, but I am hopeful that our plans will provide the basis for potential bidders."

The chief executive added that he ultimately believed that just six home wins told its own story - and tha 'people with leisure pounds in their pockets want to pay to watch a winning team'.

He added: "Last Saturday and over 4,000 home supporters showed that there is a latent support out there for the club. But over the season we were 2,000 short of that. Thast support has got to be galvanised."

Mr Booth, you say that we now know our fate & that potential Buyers should come forward.Lets not forget Boston Utd!I`ll wager they thought about life in the Conference at this time last year. What happened?BSPL wouldn`t allow them into their league,so they were FORCED into Blue Square NORTH....WHAT PRICE THAT HAPPENING TO US????????????If I was a potential buyer I`d wait to see where we`re going first.................WHAT A LAUGHING STOCK WE ARE.....

WHAT COST RELEGATION?????IF WE GET INTO BSPL, NEAREST CLUB COULD BE BURTON OR KETTERING......SOME VERY,VERY LONG AWAY TRIPS.Financially we might be better in Mansfield Sunday league. Then again with this squad we`d struggle.I`ll bet they are in "stitches" over the other side of the M1.......

What a complete farce, Mr Booth is in cloud cuckoo land, "any bidders get their thinking caps on".What is there to think about now?. I dont think the club will get promoted back into the football league for a long time to come, Its a great shame, but the current muppet show is hilarious to watch, I used to watch Mansfield Marksman play at field mill and they went bust due to HASLAMS GREED, good to see the boot on the other foot, Haslam Every dog has his day, and yours has smacked you right in the face,Do the Mansfield public a favor, take yourself and the muppets away from FIELD MILL..

It isn't too early for firm decisions - it's too late. A lack of action at the top level is precisely what has led to this disaster.

Come on Booth do the right thing and tell Haslam to lower the rent to a fair price and sell the club to Derry

There are two blobs of slime that want removing from the Mill and a third pandering to them. Vomit is too nice a word for them

Don't lose sight of the sinister ramblings of the "open and honest" mushy pea man on the Radio Mansfield interview when he let go the statement of having entered into a "confidentiality agreement" as to how the club will pay its way through the close season. Whats that all that about then?

If either of these jokers think that I am paying up front for a season ticket for next year then they can go and howl at the moon.I'm sure that plenty of others will feel the same.

Plus ca change!

too early for firm decisions, you couldnt make one if your life depended on it.I know lets wait until all the other clubs have sorted out the decent players if there are any and we will have whats left as usual. Also get rid of holland hes coached the team all season and managed them into the blue square conf.

Lets stop and think for a moment. We know we are relegated and we know it is a disaster. We all know who is to blame. We should not get so uptight about the statements coming from the club, god knows over the last few years some amazing stuff has come into the public domain from the various clowns at the club.
I know it is dificult just now but we have to try and be positive and get behind whoever ends up running the club and, whats more important, whoever plays for the club. If we do that and everyone comes back next season determined to get behind the team and support them there could be some positives to come out of our predicament. For example whilst we may not win the BSP we should and I think will, be challenging at the top of a league instead of struggling like we have for most of the last 20 years at the bottom of one. If you look at the likes of Exeter and Torquay and Oxford they have consistantly seen better attendences at home games than when struggling in league two and, again, whilst our relegation is tragic, we need to regard the BSP as another 'division' to try and get promoted from. After all there were a great many out there who at the start of the last two seasons were foolish enough to believe we had squads that were capable of challenging for promotion from league two when it was obvious that what we really had were average and particularly this season, very poor squads at best.
One final thing if you are true supporters you support your team, like I have for 45 years through thick and thin. And I can assure you as a Stags fan there have many more thins than thick over that period. No matter who owns the club, who manages the club or what division we are in so I am sure next season, not as a league club playing in the BSP but as a BSP CLUB playing in it if the fans turn out in the numbers that we are capable of we have the potential to be one of the top six teams in a league instead of one of the worst teams, as we have in recent times, and hope

The financial situation at Boston last season was very different to ours currently. At Boston, players weren't getting paid for months, the team had to travel by cars - and in a few away games, they could not field five subs. Yet they were in with a chance to stay in League Two up to the final day.

Much around Boston then can be named Steve Evans. Say no more.
