REFEREE Dean Mohareb is unlikely to figure on Billy McEwan or any Stags' fans Christmas card list after his penalty decision on Saturday handed victory to Woking at Field Mill and ended the Stags' six-match unbeaten home run.
The official decided Alan O'Hare had fouled Wilfried Domoraud and the Cards netted the penalty and hung on to what they had in a poor game to win 1-0.

  • Mansfield Town 0 Woking 1

But no-one in the ground, not even the Woking players, appealed and McEwan said: "The penalty decision was just unbelievable and it's very, very tough to take.

"I went in to see the referee and see what his version was, but he felt he was right and you can't argue with that.

"But 2,500 people can't be wrong. That's what happens at this level.

"All we can do now is lick our wounds and look to put it right at Stevenage on Tuesday.

"The players in that dressing room are hurting. This group have never lost at home before. And it was baffling to lose the game in the manner we did.

"No excuses - we didn't play as well as we can do, particularly in the first half. But we showed a better tempo after the break and went after them.

"They didn't have a shot at us apart from the penalty and we threw the kitchen sink at them. To be fair to Woking, they have had some decent results and came here with a game plan.

"It was one way traffic second half and my neck was stiff from just looking the one way.

"The wind spoiled the game too, though that is not an excuse and we did have it second half which helped us.

"But going forward we just didn't piece it together at times and wasted some set pieces opportunities with poor delivery."

Stags debutant, defender Max Chanot, on loan from Sheffield United won the match of the award for his terrific display despite the defeat.

When asked about the controversial penalty decision, he told mansfieldtown.net: "The referee is the boss on the pitch.

"It was my first start and I was very happy with my man of the match award, although I'll give it to my parents as I don't drink."

It was Woking's first away win and third 1-0 success on the trot under new boss Phil Gilchrist, who told Chad: "We knew it was going to be a hard place to come so we are delighted.

"I had a reputation for 1-0 wins from my West Brom days so I get used to it. But I think some were pulling their hair out and having heart attacks!

"Mansfield bombarded us at times and had the wind behind them. The conditions were horrible and it was not a great spectacle.

"But we did try to play when we could and we battled hard near the end and got the result we probably deserved.

"I never thought I would say this as a manager but it really was difficult to see the penalty incident. I felt it was a foul though so if it was in the box then it's a penalty.

"Maybe we've been given one. I don't know. But we'll take it as there will be others we don't get this season and that was out first this season.

"It gave us something to hold onto and my boys were magnificent today.

"It showed out team spirit near the end when both my wingers were in the box getting headers away."

Sorry Billy, you might well be right about the ridiculous penalty decision, but that just masked a very woeful performance!
We looked like 11 strangers at times & I couldnt see us scoring if we`d played on until christmas!
You asked for patience, because it`s a brand new squad. However,we are NOT getting better the longer we are together.Woking were NOTHING SPECIAL but did a "Job" on us.
THINGS NEED TO IMPROVE BEFORE TUES!!!!!!!!!

Where on earth do the league(s) find all those sub-standard refs? Think that those who went to watch today's spectacle mean that today's man in black was equally as poor as a certain Darren Drysdale a year ago. Today we were beaten by the ref, but we were that on a few occasions last season (especially Darren Drysdale). I'm not after blaming refs, but today he cost us. On the other hand, the one we had at York a month ago must have been the best one ever seen in this season's BSP.

Over to you who were there today............

Absolutley shocking lad's!. Ref was terrible , probably doesnt even deserve to take charge of Non-League football , But never the less i suppose he is the final decision!. Hopefully a good win at Stevenage , Lets see a good win for the Setanta cameras!. Good game from New signing Maxi. Up the stags!.

worst ref since mr drysdale indeed which was a match on october the 2nd so this year we have a poor ref on october the 4th! if they hadent got that penalty would of been atleast a draw because they like us didnt look much like scoring having chances which just wouldnt go in.

Never mind the ref although he was bullied by some old pros he can only give what he sees and from his angle it did look as though their player was pulled over .
My point goes along with Delboy ... you see them set up at kick off in a 4 5 1 formation .... and so you set your team up as you have practised all week as a 4 3 3 ... come on lads work it out is there any wonder all we could do was pump 30 to 40 yard balls from the back 4 our midfield could have gone for a cup of tea .
if we couldnt cope with their lone striker in a 3 4 3 formation then we deserve what we got

Sorry Billy you got it wrong and you didnt react to the play in front of you apart from jump up and down and shout .

Ever thought of spending the first half up in the stands Billy so you can see their strengths and weaknesses ??? just a thought

Best of luck for tues

wokings keeper kicks the ball into the stand to waste time gets away without a card , jeannin tells ref about it and gets a card that just about sums up the refs performance today, okay we probably did not deserve to win this game also did not deserve to lose it but ref made sure we did

Even if they didn't get the pen it would still have been 0 - 0. If we were still playing today it would be 0 - 0. How many shots on target did we have? I don't know about one way football Billy the forwards hardly got a touch. It's about time Lee started and Stallard sat on the bench. Blackwood looks like a one trick Sunday league player. We need to get round the back of teams and get the ball into the box. I'm surprised they didn't get more with their height advantage and number of fouls we gave away.
